Days Between Dates Calculator

Count the calendar days and business days between two dates, with the end-date convention stated openly and a weeks-and-days breakdown alongside. Runs entirely in your browser — your numbers never leave this device.

Business days use the (start, end] convention: the start date itself is never counted, and the end date is counted when it falls on a weekday — so Monday to Friday is 4 business days, not 5. Public holidays are not deducted, because they differ by country and region.

How it works

Calendar days = (end date − start date) counted on whole calendar days | Business days = weekdays (Mon–Fri) falling in the interval (start, end] — the start date excluded, the end date included

Pick a start and an end date and the calculator counts the whole calendar days between them by converting each date to a day number and subtracting — the same arithmetic a spreadsheet's date subtraction performs, with no timestamps, timezones or daylight saving involved. The count is signed: put the later date first and the answer is negative, which is how you can tell at a glance which way round a span runs. An optional toggle includes the end date, adding one day, for the tasks (hotel stays billed per night excluded) where both the first and last day should count.

The business-day count follows the (start, end] convention used throughout Kwikfig, and it is worth understanding before you rely on it: the start date itself is never counted, and the end date is counted when it is a weekday. That is why Monday to Friday comes out as 4 business days, not 5 — you 'arrive' after four working days of travel time. A Sunday-to-Sunday week contains exactly 5. Public holidays are not deducted, because holiday calendars differ by country, state and employer; subtract your own holidays from the weekday count when you need a true working-day figure.

Results include the same span expressed as weeks and remaining days, and the number of weekend days inside the interval. Because every figure derives from day counts, they always reconcile: calendar days = business days + weekend days, for any pair of dates you enter.

Worked examples

A full year, end excluded: 1 Jan 2026 to 31 Dec 2026

Input
Start = 2026-01-01, End = 2026-12-31, Include end date = off
Working
2026 is not a leap year, so it has 365 days. From the first day to the last is one less than the full count: 365 − 1 = 364 — exactly 52 weeks.
Result
364 calendar days (52 weeks exactly)

Across the leap day: 28 Feb to 1 Mar, leap vs common year

Input
Start = 2024-02-28, End = 2024-03-01 — then the same dates in 2023
Working
2024 is a leap year, so 29 February sits between the two dates and the span is 2 days. 2023 is a common year with no 29 February, so the same calendar span is 1 day.
Result
2024: 2 days · 2023: 1 day

Business days in a working week

Input
Start = Monday 2026-11-02, End = Friday 2026-11-06
Working
Under the (start, end] convention the start day (Monday) is excluded and Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday are counted: 4 business days. A Sunday-to-Sunday span (1 Nov → 8 Nov 2026) counts the five weekdays between them: 5.
Result
4 business days (Mon→Fri) · 5 business days (Sun→Sun)

Frequently asked questions

Why is Monday to Friday only 4 business days?

Because of the (start, end] convention printed on the page: the start date is excluded and the end date is included. Counting Monday→Friday gives Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday = 4. This 'elapsed working days' convention is the one deadline and delivery calculations need. If you want both endpoints counted, turn on 'Include the end date' — both the first and last day then count, and Monday→Friday returns 5.

Does the calendar count include the start and end days?

By default it counts the days you travel through: from 1 January to 31 January is 30 days. The 'Include the end date' toggle adds one day so both the first and last dates count (31) — the right choice for things like billing periods or counting days of an event that includes its final day.

Are public holidays subtracted from business days?

No. Business days here means Monday to Friday. Public holidays vary by country and region and change by proclamation, so a built-in holiday list would go stale and produce confident wrong answers. Take the weekday count and subtract the holidays that fall inside your span.

Why is the same February span 2 days in 2024 but 1 day in 2023?

Leap years. 2024 is divisible by 4 and is not a skipped century year, so February 2024 had a 29th day that lies inside the 28 Feb → 1 Mar span. 2023 is a common year, February ended on the 28th, and the span is a single day.

What happens if the end date is before the start date?

The counts come back negative, with the same size as the forward span. That is deliberate: it tells you the interval runs backwards, which is useful when a 'days until' check turns into 'days since'. The Age and Days Until tools present past spans in words instead.

Are my dates stored anywhere?

No. The calculation runs 100% in your browser — the dates you pick are never uploaded, stored or tracked, and there is no history once you close the tab.
