Lorem Ipsum Generator

Generate classic filler text by paragraphs, sentences or words, with an optional classic opening, a choice of length and one-click copying for layouts. Runs entirely in your browser — your numbers never leave this device.

How it works

Output = words drawn in a fixed, deterministic sequence from the classic Latin word list, grouped into sentences of 8–14 words and paragraphs of 3–5 sentences | Word mode returns exactly the requested number of words

Choose a unit — paragraphs, sentences or words — and a count, and the generator builds lorem ipsum text from the traditional Latin word list, starting with the classic “Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet” opening unless you switch that off. Paragraphs contain three to five sentences each and sentences run from eight to fourteen words, proportions chosen to mimic real body copy: a page filled with it reads, at a glance, like a page of actual text, which is the entire point of using it in a layout before the real words exist.

The generation is deterministic: the same unit, count and settings always produce exactly the same text, on any device. That matters when a design is shared — a mockup sent to a client shows the identical filler the designer saw, so comments about line breaks and spacing refer to the same layout. Word mode is exact, returning precisely the number of words requested, which is what you want when testing how a headline field or a card truncates at a fixed length.

A word of honesty about the text itself: lorem ipsum is scrambled Latin derived from Cicero, and it is deliberately meaningless to a modern reader so that reviewers judge the design instead of proofreading the copy. Never ship it — it is sample text for drafts, and any paragraph of it that reaches a live page is a process failure, not content. Generation happens in your browser; nothing is uploaded or stored.

Worked examples

Exactly 10 words for a truncation test

Input
Unit = words, Count = 10, Start with the classic opening = on
Working
The first five words are the classic opening; the deterministic sequence continues from the word list for the remaining five.
Result
Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet elit eiusmod ut dolore enim (exactly 10 words)

Two sentences of body copy

Input
Unit = sentences, Count = 2, Start with the classic opening = on
Working
The first sentence opens with the classic five words (shown with a comma: “amet,”) and runs to its full stop; the second sentence is generated entirely from the sequence.
Result
Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, veniam exercitation nisi ea. Duis in velit fugiat excepteur cupidatat sunt officia.

One full paragraph

Input
Unit = paragraphs, Count = 1
Working
A single paragraph is built from four sentences in this default generation — within the stated three-to-five range — totalling the classic opening sentence plus three generated ones.
Result
4 sentences, opening: “Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, veniam exercitation nisi ea.”

Frequently asked questions

What does lorem ipsum actually mean?

Strictly, nothing coherent. It is a scrambled excerpt from Cicero's “De finibus bonorum et malorum” (45 BC); the famous opening derives from “dolorem ipsum” — “pain itself”. Printers have used it as sample text since the 1500s precisely because readers cannot follow it and so judge the layout instead of the words.

Why does the same setting always give the same text?

The generator is deterministic — it walks the Latin word list in a fixed sequence rather than shuffling randomly. Identical settings therefore produce identical output everywhere, which keeps shared mockups and screenshots consistent. If you need a different passage, change the count or toggle the classic opening.

How many words are in a generated paragraph?

It varies by design: paragraphs hold 3 to 5 sentences and sentences hold 8 to 14 words, so a paragraph lands roughly between 24 and 70 words. If you need an exact length — for testing a text field or a layout limit — use word mode, which returns exactly the count you ask for.

Can I start without the classic opening?

Yes. Turn off “Start with lorem ipsum” and the text begins mid-sequence with a capitalised generated word instead. That is useful for second and third blocks of filler on the same page, where repeating the famous opening in every block looks artificial.

Is it safe to leave this text on a live website?

No — not because it is harmful, but because it is meaningless sample text. Search engines and visitors read it as an unfinished page. Use it for drafts, wireframes and client mockups, and replace every block before publishing.
