Remove Line Breaks

Remove unwanted line breaks from copied text and rejoin it with spaces, keep paragraph gaps, or strip breaks entirely — the PDF copy-paste cleanup tool. Runs entirely in your browser — your numbers never leave this device.

How it works

Space mode: every line break (with surrounding spaces) → one space, runs of spaces collapsed | Paragraph mode: single breaks → space, blank-line gaps → a paragraph break | None mode: line breaks deleted with nothing inserted

Text copied from a PDF, an email or a narrow web column arrives with a hard line break at the end of every visual line, which wrecks reflow when you paste it into a document. This tool rejoins those lines in one of three ways. Space mode replaces every break with a single space, producing one flowing block of text — the right choice for a paragraph that was chopped by a PDF column. None mode deletes the breaks without inserting anything, which joins words directly and is meant for data (codes, lists, wrapped URLs) rather than prose.

Paragraph mode is the careful option: single line breaks become spaces, but a blank line in the source — the mark of a genuine paragraph gap — is preserved as a paragraph break in the output. That distinction is the whole workflow: visual wrapping is removed while the author's actual paragraphing survives. In space mode the result is also trimmed and any runs of multiple spaces created by the joins are collapsed to one.

Two honest traps. A word hyphenated across a line break in the source (“exam-” then “ple”) will be rejoined with its hyphen and a space in space mode, so scan for stray “- ” sequences afterwards. And text whose line breaks are meaningful — poetry, addresses, code — should not be passed through any joiner at all. The cleanup runs in your browser; your text is never uploaded or stored.

Worked examples

Two wrapped lines joined with a space

Input
line one line two (one line break), Mode = space
Working
The single break, plus its surrounding spacing, is replaced by exactly one space.
Result
line one line two

None mode joins with nothing inserted

Input
line one line two (one line break), Mode = none
Working
The break is deleted outright, so the end of the first line touches the start of the second — correct for wrapped data, wrong for prose.
Result
line oneline two

Paragraph mode keeps the real paragraph gap

Input
para one still one para two, Mode = paragraph
Working
The single break inside the first paragraph becomes a space; the blank line between the paragraphs is preserved as a paragraph break.
Result
para one still one, then a blank line, then para two

Frequently asked questions

Which mode should I use for text copied from a PDF?

Paragraph mode for multi-paragraph documents, space mode for a single paragraph. PDFs wrap every visual line with a hard break; paragraph mode removes those wraps while keeping the blank-line gaps that mark real paragraphs, which space mode would flatten into one block. Use none mode only for data that must join exactly, such as a wrapped reference code.

Why did two words end up joined together?

You probably used none mode, which inserts nothing where the break was: “line one” and “line two” become “line oneline two”. That behaviour is intentional for data cleanup. For prose, space or paragraph mode inserts the space you are missing.

What happens to hyphenated words split across lines?

They keep their hyphen and gain a space in space and paragraph modes (“exam- ple”), because the tool cannot know whether the hyphen belongs to the word or was inserted by the wrapping software. After cleaning PDF text, search the result for “- ” (hyphen-space) with Find and Replace to catch the handful of cases.

Does it remove the blank lines between paragraphs too?

Only in space and none modes, where the entire output is one continuous block. In paragraph mode, blank lines are the signal the tool preserves: one or more blank lines in the source become exactly one paragraph break in the output.

Can it clean up text copied from an email or web page?

Yes — quoted email and narrow forum posts have the same hard-wrap problem as PDFs. Paste, choose paragraph mode, and copy the rejoined text out. If the source also carries HTML markup, run it through Strip HTML Tags first, then remove the breaks.

Is my text uploaded anywhere?

No. The cleanup runs 100% in your browser; your text is never sent to a server, stored or tracked.
